Goodread’s Summary

*NO SPOILERS*

Before I read this book I had already watched season 1 of Anne with an E on Netflix, so I decided I should read the book before going into season 2. I love the show a lot and I thought this book would give me some more insight, and it did! I really came to love this book, it sent me into a mini reading slump after I had finished it. I didn’t read anything else for the rest of the day! (I finished around noon). The author did so well in the writing, Anne is a little girl who likes to ramble on and imagine things, but the word choice and diction fit right in to her personality. The language was so flowery and beautiful that it just made the whole book flow really well. I also just loved Anne’s character, and how she went about doing things. Just reading along as she grows up is really endearing and she brings with her all the entertainment with her mistakes in life. Matthew is my favorite character and even though his part in the book is small, he creates a huge impact all the way throughout the story! I also learned many new words, because Anne has a phase when she is younger of using big words. After reading this book I wanted to read the next one in the series, but didn’t have it with me. Which is shocking because I never enjoy reading classics that much, and sometimes see them as a chore, but this classic is my new #1! This book isn’t my favorite book but it is my favorite classic which is saying a lot. Also this book has a stunning cover! I’m in love ❤

*FAVORITE QUOTE(S)*

“Oh it’s delightful to have ambitions. I’m so glad I have such a lot. And there never seems to be any end to them — that’s the best of it. Just as soon as you attain to one ambition you see another one glittering higher up still. It does make life so interesting.”         ~Anne

“For we pay a price for everything we get or take in this world; and although ambitions are well worth having, they are not to be cheaply won, but exact their dues of work and self-denial, anxiety and discouragement.”         ~Anne

*SPOILER ALERT*

So in the beginning when she realizes they wanted a boy, my heart breaks all over again. I knew it was coming from watching the tv show but it didn’t lessen the pain any. The ending also left my heart aching because Matthew was my favorite character. It was so sad to read about Anne and Marilla after he had died. The one thing I was disappointed with was that we didn’t see more of Anne and Gilbert together. They went a whole 5 years without speaking to one another! That’s too long, I wanted to watch their romance bloom! Ugh, the show season 1 ending had left me seriously wanting more Anne and Gilbert cuteness. 😦

What do you think about this book?  What do you think about the show?
