Once and For All by Sarah Dessen

Goodread’s Summary

TRIGGER WARNING!  School Shootings

At first I didn’t really want to pick up this book. I don’t really know why and it was stupid of me because I really liked everything else I have read from her. I guess I just had high expectations for this book and didn’t want to be let down if it didn’t turn out as good as I hoped. Obviously Sarah Dessen is extremely good at what she does and I had no reason to worry, because I absolutely loved this book! This book had me smiling so hard and laughing the whole time! Although I will say that this book is full of insta-love which I HATE. Somehow it didn’t bother me as much in this book, she really made it work in the story. I really liked Jilly’s character and I also thought that Ambrose was a huge dick throughout the entire novel. For the most part the characters were easy to get along with. I also liked how this story came into a full loop. Where the beginning resembles and is brought back at the end. I really appreciate that in a book. I like how it makes you compare the start and the finish and look back at everything the characters went through. This book also reminds me a little of the Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli for some reason.

“A wedding is a series of special moments, strung together like beads on a chain. Sure, by themselves, they are lovely, but put them all together and you get art.”    ~Louna

“You can’t measure love by the time put in, but the weight of those moments. Some in life are light, like a touch. Others, you can’t help but stagger beneath.”     ~Louna

“You stop believing in wishes when the only one you want to make can never come true.”   ~Louna    (This quote hurt me so bad 😦 )

So I want to start by saying I loved Ethan and Louna together! I could read a whole book about just them. I do want to say that it was cruel to make Louna think she lost Ambrose in the end like she did Ethan. I felt really bad for her after everything else she had been through. I want to applaud her for going straight back after that incident and breaking up with Ben. Yes it was mean but in the end it really saves both of them a lot of time. She realized what she wanted so she didn’t let anything (or anyone) get in her way. I didn’t like Ben anyway because he got in the way of her and Ambrose’s relationship. I personally don’t understand why she ran away from him in the first place, but then again he could have stopped her too. All in all this whole mess could have been avoided anyway if they just worked it out sooner. My favorite scene was when they were doing the engagement photos together! I really liked the chemistry they had going there and it was really entertaining to read. I also really liked the whole betting trope that was in the book too. I saw the intentions behind that from a mile away!

Which Sarah Dessen book is your favorite? How did you like this one?
